ANSWERS to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Who’s Nate?

A: There is no Nate. It’s Nat.

2. Okay, who’s Nat then.

A: Nathaniel Hayden was amongst the original settlers of Windsor in 1633. His son Captain Nathaniel Hayden of Revolutionary War fame was born in 1738 and built the house that still stands on Hayden Station Road. The Owners of this restaurant chose the name as a way of tying into the rich history of Windsor while incorporating a proper name into the name of their barbecue joint.

3. Are you (the owners) from Windsor?

A: No, we’re from Hartford and Up-state New York. We now reside in West Hartford and Suffield

4. You’re not from ‘Down South’?

A: No, we just love barbecue.

5. How long have you been open?

A: We opened on December 23rd, 2009

6. So how’s it going? Are you busy?

A: It’s going great, we’re busy every day.

7. What style of barbecue do you do?

A: We call it ‘Pan-Southern’, we try to borrow from the best of every area.

8. Who taught you how to cook barbecue?

A: No one person, we both picked up bits here and there and learned the rest through research and trial and error.

9. Why did you pick Windsor as the location for your restaurant?

A: We didn’t necessarily pick Windsor, we just liked this particular location. As it turns out, Windsor has been a great town in which to do business.

10. Where’s your smoker- is it out back?

A: No, our smokers are Cookshack 150’s from Ponca City, Oklahoma and they are right on the cooking line in the restaurant.

11.  What kind of wood do you use?

A: Hickory, Apple and Cherry.

12. How come you don’t have sweet tea?

A: We’ve found that being in Connecticut most of our customers prefer unsweetened tea. We also want our customers to try the Hosmer Mountain Soda that we feature.

A: Nah, we like it just the way it is..
